Carla Goldberg
born in 1965 in Southern California and lives and
works in the Hudson Valley, NewYork.
She graduated with Honors from the University of Redlands in CA.
She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Maryland Institute,
College of Art
Mount Royal Graduate School of Art, Baltimore, Maryland.
The play of light seen behind a transparent surface is a theme that runs
through all of my work.
My paintings allude to transformation, evolution, past and present.
They are pieces of archeology. My imagery centers around the Hudson
River landscape and are created in multiple layers using boxes glued
into cut canvas, paint, resin and colored wax. Textures and patinas
are an important facet of my work and give a dimension of age, history
and variation to the surface. The boxes are meant to make you feel as
if you are digging through time. While these paintings are distinctly
Hudson River imagery, the story is a universal one. Life, communities,
industry instinctively begin along a waters edge.
